The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation recently announced it will be awarding more than $6 million in college scholarships to military families. Scholarships will be handed out to over 1,900 Marine Corps children at the Foundation’s annual Scholarship Announcement Ceremony. Students will be able to use these scholarships to help pay for their college education and improve the level of their education by pursuing a college degree.
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the nation’s largest and oldest provider of college scholarships to military families. Since the foundation’s inception in 1962, more than 30,000 scholarships have been awarded worth more than $70 million. The foundation’s main goal is to honor the members of the military by educating their children. Students whose parents have been killed in the line of duty are given preferential treatment when it comes to deciding who receives the scholarships as well as those families with a demonstrated financial need.
MARINE CORPS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION AWARDS $6 MILLION IN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
Over the years, the scholarship program run by the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has grown by leaps and bounds. In fact, the foundation saw a 25% increase in the number of applications it received this year compared to last year. A big reason why the foundation was able to increase the number of scholarships it awards each year is because of the generous donations it has received from various corporations. Some corporations, such as Hewlett Packard, are adding to the scholarship prizes and offering students tangible items to accompany their financial scholarships. Hewlett Packard is donating fifty mini HP computers to help students study more efficiently while attending college.
